Superstar Artists And Writers Support Second Phase Of Charity Auction To Raise Funds For JapanPersonal items donated by global stars to aid the Japanese Red Cross’s disaster relief efforts, via charity auction at ebay.com/EMIfamily4Japan The latest round of the charity auction, which is one of the biggest in eBay’s history, kicks off today and closes on April 21. There are still four days to go until the end of the first phase of the auction, featuring items from artists and writers including Coldplay, Beastie Boys, Jane Birkin, Depeche Mode, 30 Seconds To Mars, Simple Minds, Alice In Chains, and The Chemical Brothers. Items added to the auction today include the 1987 Ferrari 412 as featured in Daft Punk’s film ‘Electroma’, a cupcake trampoline used on stage in Katy Perry’s current California Dreams world tour, access to private concert rehearsal by Sting, a one-off diamante head used onstage by Deadmau5, a limited edition ‘Yellow Submarine’ bicycle issued to mark the re-release of The Beatles’ famous movie, three framed and signed prints of David Gilmour taken in Gdansk, and more than 30 albums individually signed by David Bowie. Also included in the auction is the MacBook used by David Guetta to create the demos for his hit album ‘One Love’, the hand written lyrics to ‘God Only Knows’ from the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, Tinie Tempah’s pink blazer from the ‘Frisky’ video, and one of the four original handmade "Zero" shirts worn by the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan for the release and tour of ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’. All funds raised from the charity auction will be used towards the Japanese Red Cross disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Funds will be used for the on-going provision of immediate relief to support the affected population during their recovery. EMI Group has committed to match all funds raised from the auction up to a maximum of one million euros. The first phase of the charity auction ends on April 15th, with the second phase ending on April 21st. All the items can be viewed at ebay.com/EMIfamily4Japan. Beastie Boys said: “Japan has always been a special and important place for us as a band. We've made so many friendships there in our personal and professional lives. We hope in some way that our donation can help the people of Japan rebuild after the devastating earthquakes and tsunami.” Billy Corgan, the vocalist, lead guitarist and songwriter for The Smashing Pumpkins, commented: "The people of Japan are an incredibly strong and proud people, and their love of life and culture has had a profound and positive affect on the way I view my own life. There are a million things I wish I could do right now to help soothe the pain and sorrow that so many of our fans and their families are experiencing, and my heart hurts when I think of the losses they have suffered, and are still suffering. I wanted to contribute to this auction to show my gratitude to the Japanese people and offer something that was particularly meaningful to me. I'm also proud of all the other artists who have pitched in to help, as well as my old label EMI for stepping in to organize and also match donations." MUSIC MATTERS MUSIC MATTERS
The music world comes together to launch Music Matters. A collective of people in the music industry, including artists, retailers, songwriters, labels and managers has formed to remind listeners of the significance and value of music. Music Matters is bringing people together from across the industry for the first time, to highlight the profound value of music and to educate consumers on how to identify legitimate music services. Allowing the music to speak for itself, Music Matters comprises a series of short animated films about inspirational artists who have dedicated their lives to music and contributed to our cultural landscape. The films, including the stories of artists such as Sigur Ros, the Fron Choir, Blind Willie Johnson, The Jam, John Martyn, Nick Cave and Kate Bush, will be carried on supporting artist and organisation websites, with further films scheduled for roll out later in the year. A Music Matters trust mark will be launched to help audiences make the ethical choice when looking for new music. The trust mark is a widespread certification scheme which identifies legitimate music services. Leading music retailers will display the trust mark and host the Music Matters films on their websites. The Music Matters website, www.whymusicmatters.org, goes live on 24th March. It will host all of the films will as well as advice on how to identify legitimate music sites. |

A Fine Frenzy To Release 'Oh Blue Christmas' EP November 3rd; Tour DatesOH BLUE CHRISTMAS EP "It was the most wonderful thing," says the singer of the recording sessions for Oh Blue Christmas, which saw the band expanding its sound with accents from horns, mandolins, and pedal-steel guitars. "We all holed up in (producer) David Bianco's lovely studio, which was built in the '70s and hasn't changed much since then—and though it was the sticky, hot LA summer outside, inside, it was snowy, delightful Christmastime." The EP is coming out while A Fine Frenzy is in the midst of a nationwide tour, which concludes at Anaheim, CA's House of Blues on November 18; rising stars Landon Pigg and Among the Oak & Ash are opening the shows. Highlights from a special preview concert in East Hampton, New York, which was filmed over the summer by the public television series Live from the Artists Den, can be seen exclusively on hulu.com (www.hulu.com/artistsden). The early response to Bomb in a Birdcage (which was a Number One Top Pop Album and & on the Top Overall Album iTunes chart and reached > on the Amazon MP3 Best Sellers chart) has been extraordinary. Billboard wrote that the album’s songs “churn like giddy summer romances, nailing the delicate balance of charming and smart,” while Vogue described the album’s first single, “Blow Away,” as “irresistible” and “sunny without being saccharine.” VH1 and MTVU added “Blow Away" to their rotations, and the song was AOL's “Video of the Day” on September 17. The album is the follow-up to 2007’s One Cell in the Sea, which reached Number One on Billboard’s “Heatseeker” charts, and received rave reviews in publications from Entertainment Weekly to Paste to People. A Fine Frenzy was chosen as a VH1 “You Oughta Know” artist; appeared on The Tonight Show, The CBS Early Show and The Late Show with David Letterman; and toured extensively alongside the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Brandi Carlile. Born in Seattle and raised in Los Angeles, 24-year-old singer and songwriter Sudol was active on Twitter (@AFineFrenzy) long before it became a cultural phenomenon—to the point that she now has over a million followers, making her one of the top ten musicians on the service, alongside super stars like Britney Spears and John Mayer. The surprising decision to record Oh Blue Christmas before Bomb in a Birdcage was even released—a choice sure to delight her fans—is evidence that Sudol and her bandmates are truly bursting with creative energy. "We basically put down six songs in five days," says Sudol, "recording everything together around an invisible campfire, everyone picking up different instruments and playing them on a moment's notice. There was definitely some holiday magic in the air that week." A FINE FRENZY CELEBRATES MILLION-FOLLOWER TWITTER MILESTONE WITH FREE DOWNLOADA FINE FRENZY CELEBRATES MILLION-FOLLOWER SECOND VIRGIN RECORDS ALBUM, ‘BOMB IN A BIRDCAGE,’ TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER, 2009
(July 23, 2009, New York, NY) – Joining a select club of music notables, Virgin Records’ A FINE FRENZY marks a milestone in its close online relationship to its fans, as the band surpasses 1 million-plus Twitter followers. To celebrate the moment and to thank and acknowledge all of A FINE FRENZY’s fans, the band is tweeting a free MP3, an acoustic version of the lead-off single, “Blow Away” that was recorded during a recent visit to Cincinnati radio station Q102. The album version was released digitally on July 14 and has been added to dozens of Hot AC and AAA radio station playlists already, while the band's second album BOMB IN A BIRDCAGE is scheduled for digital and physical release on September 8, 2009.
AFF frontwoman, singer-songwriter Alison Sudol (@AFineFrenzy), tweeting long before Twitter became a social magnet and a cultural marker, had already been among the top 10 most-followed musicians on the service for months, rubbing shoulders with top-line music celebrities Mariah Carey and Britney Spears; the inveterate blogger and online wit John Mayer; hip-hoppers P. Diddy, 50 Cent, and Soulja Boy; actor/singer Ashley Tisdale; Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Coldplay.
The breezy, propulsive album version of “Blow Away” shares the tuneful charm and whimsical language of AFF’s debut, while BOMB IN A BIRDCAGE as a whole adds new colors and textures reflecting what Sudol describes as a previously-unnoticed “wild side…I’m a quiet person with a loud streak, and this record is a testament to that.”
Seattle-born and Los Angeles-raised Sudol released the first A FINE FRENZY album, One Cell In the Sea, in 2007, reaching Number One on Billboard’s “Heatseeker” charts. The band was chosen as a VH-1 “You Oughta Know” artist, and received rave notices in Entertainment Weekly, Paste and People, among others. Touring alongside the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Brandi Carlile, Sudol also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The CBS Early Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. She made her acting debut on the crime drama series CSI: NY and has also shot fashion spreads.

A Fine Frenzy's daring sophomore album, 1st single "Blow Away" on iTunesBOMB IN A BIRDCAGE, TURNS UP THE VOLUME "BLOW AWAY" AVAILABLE NOW ON ITUNES On September 8, 2009, A FINE FRENZY—led by Alison Sudol—will release Bomb in a Birdcage on Virgin Records, the follow-up to 2007’s critically acclaimed One Cell in the Sea. While the debut established Sudol as one of the most talented young singers and songwriters around, the new album reveals another side of A Fine Frenzy. "I think some people may be surprised,” says 24-year-old Sudol. “They think that I’m all fragile and ethereal, but I have a wild side, too. I’m a quiet person with a loud streak, and this record is a testament to that.” One Cell reached Number One on Billboard’s “Heatseeker” charts, and A Fine Frenzy was chosen as a VH1 “You Oughta Know” artist. The album received rave reviews in publications from Entertainment Weekly to Paste to People. Songs from the album were licensed to numerous television shows, and Sudol appeared on The Tonight Show, The CBS Early Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. The young redheaded singer made her acting debut on CSI:NY and turned up in fashion spreads, but she received even more attention for her literary interests, including a band name taken from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. “Blow Away,” the breezy, propulsive first single from Bomb in a Birdcage now available on iTunes, illustrates that the new album retains the tuneful charm and whimsical language of the debut, while adding new colors and textures. Lengthy tours alongside the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Brandi Carlile contributed to Sudol’s attraction to different sounds. “On tour,” she says, “I discovered that I love rocking out and having a good time. I started listening to as much music as I could. I didn’t want to limit myself. I wanted to stretch and grow and push myself. I also wanted to have fun.” The pivotal point for Bomb in a Birdcage was “Stood Up,” a sweeping rock ballad. “It was the most unruly I’d ever been,” says Sudol. “I was scared by it at first and wanted to put it aside. But the songs I tend to love the most in the end are often the ones that, initially, I wanted to do away with.” Born in Seattle and raised in Los Angeles, Sudol retains a close relationship to the outdoors, and to the spirit of fantasy she found in writers like Lewis Carroll and C.S. Lewis. But she’s far from being some kind of romantic Luddite. In fact, she was active on Twitter (@AFineFrenzy) long before it became a cultural phenomenon—to the point that she now has over half a million followers, making her one of the top ten musicians on the service, alongside folks like Britney Spears and John Mayer. The cliché is that an artist puts her whole life into her debut, and then has to crank out a followup while touring and feeling commercial pressure for the first time. But on Bomb in a Birdcage, Alison Sudol has challenged herself, and reached heights that even she couldn’t imagine. “I felt like being daring,” she says. “I wasn’t interested in doing more of the same, that doesn’t inspire me. And now, I can’t wait to get on the road with this stuff! It’s going to be quite an undertaking, but I’m up for it.” ### Buy "Blow Away" on iTunes! People are talking about A Fine Frenzy Here are some of the most recent articles and interviews
Gen Art Pulse - The Prettiest Girl in Indie Rock The Rhapsody Interview by A Fine Frenzy on Rhapsody From InStyle Magazine Party Hopper James Patrick Herman I met a V.I.P.-to-be downstairs on the main floor: Alison Sudol, a.k.a. A Fine Frenzy , who was a hit at the recent South by Southwest festival when she opened for Iggy Pop and the Stooges. For you Shakespeare scholars out there: Yes, the name of Alison's band was inspired by A Midsummer Night's Dream, so it's no surprise that her sound is more Tori than Iggy. Her debut album, One Cell in the Sea, could make her a big star when it comes out on July 17th, but at the moment, Alison's content to keep it real. "I still live with my mom," she told me. In fact, she was signed to the Capitol Music Group after charming Jason Flom, the record company's CEO, with a private showcase in her L.A. living room. "My mom made cookies," the singer/songwriter recalls. Alison's songs are pretty great on their own, but cookies make everything better. Click here for pic of James w/ Alison |
